Entrepreneur — Time Versus Energy Flow

Life Coaches and Certified Parenting Coaches deal often with two primary issues: time and energy. The classic secret to time management for an entrepreneur is to show the client how to manage their personal organization and not time. Whereas, managing your energy relates to Full-Wave-breathing, exercise, and movement.

Just as electrical equipment functions best when receiving a solid surge of electricity, so do you. In your case, the power you need is energy, which gives you stamina for the day and the ability to kick into high gear when necessary to deal with a problem. It’s not that you have to be perky all day or load up on four shot espresso coffees to get focused. Yet, you do need to know your energy is at its highest and lowest as the entrepreneur working from home.

When you understand how your personal energy patterns ebb and flow, you use that knowledge to support your time management strategy. Are you a night person, who works late but starts slow in the mornings? Are you an early bird who can get up before dawn, exercise, arrive early at your desk to get organized for the day? Then you are a lark!

Or are you a mid-day entrepreneur who starts slow, picks up speed then tapers off in the late afternoon? These patterns relate to your natural energy flow also called bio-rhythms. Some people chart these patterns weekly and monthly and  use them to make their schedule, work, or travel commitments.  

Or, you can observe yourself and note which hours are your prime working hours–the hours when you can be highly productive with the least effort or tiredness. Just make a simple chart of the day on graph paper or on a spreadsheet-based graph.

List your waking hours on the bottom and a high, medium, low rating along the side. Then make an “X” for your energy level at each hour of the day. As you connect the dots, you’ll notice a pattern of energy highs and lows. Do this for several days and see how consistent the pattern is.

Knowing your prime working hours (early bird, midday, evening) is extremely helpful in how you schedule the complicated tasks in your workday. If you have a choice in scheduling the time to make a presentation at a conference, and you are a midday person, ask for a time between 11 am to 3 pm.

Don’t say yes to the 8am presentation time. You will wake up sluggish and not be sharp even though you know the material. The same is true for dividing tasks. With a large project, divide the elements so that you plan to work on the creative writing or material calculations during the prime energy time of your workday. Your mind will be more alert and you will have the energy to focus on complicated work.

During your off-peak energy times, gather related materials or do some aspect of the project that is less detailed and does not require a high level of creative energy or decision-making. After using this approach for a few weeks, you’ll see what happened on those days when your time management plan seemed to derail even though you were motivated to do the work. 

You simply scheduled the wrong task for your lower energy times and so your output was less than anticipated. As with electrical power, peak periods are more expensive. Peak periods in your workday, as an entrepreneur are more valuable, so allocate them wisely and use that high-energy surge to get the work done faster and better.

How do you define SUCCESS?  One defnition is success is achieving your financial goals through your online coachinfg or consulting business.

Not a Destination

The problem is, success isn’t a destination. Success is a journey with stops along the way.  Being successful is moving toward your goals, this the way to achieve it is to be constantly moving forward with the goals in the distance.  Your happiness isn’t dependent upon actually reaching that goal, however.  Your success is based on the sense of accomplishment you derived from having closed the distance and achieved that goal.

The bottom line is that your definition of success is on the path to get the things that you want, one at a time, and to continue to improve yourself and to inspire yourself to reach the next level.

That brings us to the framework for those goals that you want to achieve – your habits for success. The practices that you cultivate will result in the success you desire. Habits for success are clearly defined, well thought out and designed to take you to the goals that you have set for yourself. To understand what a pattern for success is, set some goals first. But for demonstration purposes, here are three different examples because it can be difficult to know how to identify the successful habit.

The reason that people have problems becoming successful is that they have not figured out exactly what it means to be a success!  Defining it for yourself is the first step in achieving it. AT ACPI, we have varied goals for reaching our audience as well as monthly financial goals to tell us we are on target.

Defining Success

The problem is…success isn’t really a destination. Success is a journey with stops along the way. You are going to want more, and that’s okay. You set another goal – a higher purpose – of being able to attend charity dinners where the price of a plate is over $1000 for example. Your happiness isn’t dependent upon the actual goal achievement. It is based upon your hard work and your sense of accomplishment derived from having achieved that goal

The bottom line is that your definition of success is never a specific destination. Preferably, your destiny is being on the path to get the things that you want and continue to improve yourself and inspire yourself to reach more and more goals.

That brings us to the framework for those goals that you want to achieve – your habits for success. The practices that you will be teaching yourself result in the success you desire. Five Lessons from Warren Buffet

You might be wondering what super-investor Warren Buffett can teach you about life. You might be thinking that he knows a lot about money, but that has little to do with being an expert on life. You might be surprised. Warren is famous for his simple lifestyle and love of his work. Let these lessons in life be a guide for contentment in your own life:

1. Focus on what you love. Warren has a beautiful, modest home, and drives a $40,000 car. He could own the most expensive house and vehicles in the world, but he doesn’t. He drinks Coke, buys what he likes, and enjoys a relatively simple life.

Enjoy your life and the things you have. Avoid being concerned about what everyone else has or about what you could have. It’s more satisfying to own one perfect painting than to own ten that don’t thrill you. Seek out the things you love and avoid wasting your time on the rest.

2. Quality is more important than quantity. You only need to make a few right decisions to be incredibly successful. Warren Buffett has hundreds of billions of dollars to invest for himself and others, yet he frequently only owns 20 or so stocks. Be picky. Be happy with a smaller quantity.

Warren has a very famous line that states, “Your financial wealth would be much greater if you could only make 20 investments in your lifetime. You would make sure they were great if you had only 20 chances.”

3. Do what you love.  Warren has said that the essential part of success and contentment is doing what you love every day. That’s why he’s never stopped investing and making money. If you’re spending your time doing what you love, you continue doing the same thing regardless of how much money you have.

You might not enjoy the career you have right now. But are you doing anything to change that? Do you have a plan? Imagine how much more content you would be if you enjoyed going into work each day.

4. Mind your own business. You needn’t be concerned with what the competition is doing. Avoid being influenced by everyone else. If you do what everyone else is doing, you’ll simply be average. Avoid comparing yourself to everyone else. Follow your intuition. Most of us are overly concerned with others. We’re worried about how we compare. We’re concerned about their opinions of us. They’re probably thinking the same things. Get yourself out of that loop and do your job.

5. Stick to your talents. Warren is famous for shunning high-tech investments, even when they were practically a sure thing. He has stated that he doesn’t understand them well enough to invest in them. Stay in your areas of strength. You don’t need to do everything. Focus on what you know well.

We usually enjoy doing the things that showcase our strengths. That’s human nature. It also makes life easier. Work on your weaknesses, but leverage your strengths.

You might be thinking, “Yeah, anyone could be content with $50 billion.” But that’s not true. Studies have shown that happiness and income correlate to $75,000. Above that income level, happiness does not increase.

Super wealthy people became wealthy mainly because they were comfortable living a particular way and kept moving forward to those goals or achievements they had scheduled into life. You can be just as content, even if you never amass a mega-fortune. Aim to increase the amount of contentment in your life. It might not be an issue of money, possessions, or the other things that most people think to lead to happiness.

As a Nurturer, you might feel like you always have to be in the present moment. As a life coach or entrepreneur, your instinct alerts you to others’ needs. These three coaching qualities are for you…that you will be balanced, get stuff done, and have a good time.

One common trait of successful entrepreneurs is that they are masters of self-discipline. In the beginning, the motivated entrepreneur puts in the hours as well as the work to turn the business into a successful venture. The early stages are full of intrigue, which fosters further envisioning, planning and promoting outcomes. A high level of self-discipline helps you stick with a course of action through good and bad times. When the glamor fades, you won’t enter a state of self-denial. You will know within your heart that you can achieve a much bigger reward, especially when it comes to finances.

Optimistic—–Assertive—–Self-Reliant—–Certain—–Assured

What gets any coach entrepreneur through the day? A high level of confidence gives you that edge to finish the job irrespective of the state of the business.Significant challenges bring the best personal rewards to you. You stuck with it. You said yes to the part that gets discouraged. You have the compassion to know when to take a break from your intense focus. Your confidence as a coach entrepreneur lets you see opportunity where another business-person only stares failure in the face.

Highly Adaptable

Flexible—–Cooperative—–Versatile—–Accommodating—–Amenable

Business landscapes constantly change. Can you go with the flow? Would you want to be left behind? You don’t always see what’s ahead: a website crashes. You get sick. You overspend. You don’t spend enough for leads or advertisement. These are the new waters that an entrepreneur navigates. Adaptability and intuition help you to cope and respond quickly in any situation. Being adaptable helps navigation.

 

 

 

 

Successful Parent-Coach Entrepreneur Mindset Traits (3-4-5)

Does the title Certified Parent Coach show up in your mind? Do you play the role of mentoring families in your head? Here is why you do, and it is good news.

People go into entrepreneurship for the freedom of managing their own time and resources. It is a good reason, but they need to plan their entrepreneurial journey.

3. Envisioning: To see in your mind the steps to business success are clues that depict two facts:

You can manifest the vision.
The steps will make themselves known to you. Your job is to watch for the positive (or negative) clues.

I see this quite often when professionals call ACPI about being a parenting coach. They think about it, and suddenly see the term online, and click through to the site. They have a dream about it. They’ve expressed interest in parent coaching and then meet a parent coach. You can call it synchronous, but I call it manifesting one’s intention.

Th result is a clear vision of the plan or objectives of the business.
Planning gives the entrepreneur the ability of foresight enabling allocation of resources for any outcomes.

4. Being Determined
After the creation of the action plan, entrepreneurs decide to commit and maintain a high level of determination to attain success. Believe it or not, the determining and planning keep you interested and motivated enough to commit for the long term.

 Sustaining is an extension of determination.
Business involves a commitment to the workload. Will you accept that the buck stops there with you? This challenge is enough to discourage an entrepreneur.

Before you embark on the journey, you must be fully determined to see the business through, and this will prop you up even when the pressure of the market mounts.

5. Be Passionate

Passion is the fuel that drives commitment and determination necessary to succeed on the entrepreneurial journey. As an entrepreneur, you have to appreciate what you do, and it starts with knowing why you went into the business.

Passion based on your business’s particular mission is an intrinsic drive that carries you through the long days and the long nights that consume your energy for life. Without passion, you will quickly cave into the stress, and the pressure and your entrepreneurial journey will be a short lived one. Passion provides the entrepreneur with an internal reward that sustains them between paydays.

 Entrepreneurship is the way of the future! It may be the answer to the personal success that you’ve been looking for all along. Becoming an Coach or Consultant is an entrepreneur’s role and the  most effective path to building an empire. And building an empire is a surefire way to achieve your dreams.

If that’s what you want, you have to start somewhere. Becoming an entrepreneur requires committed effort on your part. The Academy for Coaching Parents has been and is an entrepreneurial endeavor But you’ll be beyond happy when you’re at the end of the road.

If you have limited entrepreneurial know-how, use this checklist to get on the correct path:

1.Buy into a business and commit wholeheartedly, and for the long haul. This doesn’t necessarily mean putting down financial capital. Make an emotional and educated investment into whatever the business concept may be. Researching your business idea is crucial to success. Is anybody else doing it? What’s the usual market response to similar ideas?

2. Identify a target audience. Who wants your product or service? Naturally, you’ll need to be able to identify It’s safe to say that a business without a target audience may not do very well! When you determine your target audience upfront, you can focus on building a marketing plan.

3.  Find ways to start It’s exciting to have big ideas for your business. But it’s also wise to start small. Start researching and designing launch plans, financing, and other key elements to get it going, with plans for expanding as profits allow. Some of today’s biggest businesses started as tiny “hole-in-the-wall” operations. For example, Steve Jobs built computers in his garage. This may be the approach for you since it’s your first entrepreneurship. Your bank might be offering you impressive financing. But do you really need all that startup capital? Keep your head on and only take what you really need. The less debt you have at the onset, the easier it is to see profits.

4. Think evolution. The businesses with the greatest success are the ones that constantly reinvent You’ll need to have that eye of longevity in order to build a good business model. Your business idea might be for bottled water today. But who says it can’t evolve to other bottled beverages tomorrow? This is the kind of thought to put into your startup business.

5. Get involved in the process. Getting involved in the process can mean a lot of things, depending on the type of entrepreneurship. Understand the numbers. The dollars and cents are the main determining factors in how well the business is doing. Stay on top of every aspect of the startup project. It’s great to have experts on board, but it’s an even better idea to know what they’re doing! At this point, you’re probably already starting to feel excited! Getting your business idea off the ground is a challenging, but rewarding, experience. Once you stick to this general planning sequence, you’ll likely pull it off successfully.

Entrepreneurship
 is my journal that several coaches suggested I write, not only for myself, but for them. “The lessons of heart wisdom are for everyone,” they said. So, here goes…. if you like the lessons or find them helpful, please comment and let me know.

When a web site or a relationship fall apart, do you listen to the Pragmatic Voice, or the Challenger Voice

My friends and I felt good and celebrated surviving the emotional, chaotic energies of 2012. Boy, we should have waited until 2013 to celebrate. Because 15 days into the new year, when the web sites disappeared like an earthquake swallowing a home, my heart broke.

The easiest solution was to turn my back on the whole entrepreneurship mess, walk away, and figure out another way to earn a living. And I had to do it quickly. But that was too easy, and I am a neat person and can’t leave a mess behind me. I would always wonder What if?

When the What if? questions start rolling through the mind, they take the form of a personal voice I call The Challenger:  “But what if you DID start over? What if you had new ideas for entrepreneurship? How fast could you make it happen with the right support?” The Challenger was trying to inspire me again.

“Not a problem,” said Pragmatic Voice: “When we have new ideas, we will use them, When a tech support person shows up who will work for free, I’ll interview them.” Ah, voice number 2 is so obviously pragmatic, and kind of kills the joy of being creative and entrepreneurial.

“That’s okay,” Pragmatic said, “You can think this second voice of yours is a killjoy. But one day you will thank me because this whole web of creativity you opened never stops flowing, and you focus it well when you do focus it, but …. you now need to listen to my common sense, pragmatism for new entrepreneurship ideas?”

I hate it when I lecture myself, but I accepted all of the inner wisdom voices a long time ago, because if I didn’t, the inner wisdom nags until I pay attention.

If all in my outer world of entrepreneurship is a reflection of my inner world,  then I need a safe place, and to feel safe. I don’t like to make important life decisions from a place of fear. Like the Bengal cat who hangs out for a while, I do things on my time, my intuitive time. Like many sensitive people, the internal timing does manifest when the foundations are right. Sometimes, my creative downloads may take a year to manifest.

Yes, pragmatic voice is right. When I exert my entrepreneurial will into my world, and I am not aligned with the heart feeling about the project, something does go wrong, When I do not listen to the gut level intuition, the organ for assimilating life, walking my talk, something goes wrong. I did that in 2012, thinking my entrepreneurship foundations were solid, running into snags, facing personality issues with my team members, and I stayed the course.

if only you has listened to me, heard me. Like a baby who stops crying when her needs are met, my heart stopped trying to get me to feel out the situation. Instead, I pushed so hard, that my heart energy cracked wide open, vulnerable tears flowed. Surprisingly the tears were of relief. The tears meant that crazy cycle of over-extending self in time, energy and focus was over. 2017 is the year to take one step at a time, insuring that I feel great about each step on the new path of entrepreneurship.
